For over a thousand years the Cathedral Church of the Holy & Undivided Trinity (of Ely) has dominated the skyline of the low-lying fens of East Anglia. Located in Ely, Cambridgeshire, the Cathedral has undergone three major renovations with many Gothic additions added to its Romanesque facade and features. The original construction took over three hundred years to bring this striking work of architecture to completion.
However it's history goes back even further as an Anglo-Saxon church preceded the Norman builders by over four hundred years. Although the earlier church was demolished many of its relics were incorporated into the newer cathedral.
Currently over 250,000 visitors a year arrive in Ely to tour the Cathedral..
